On November 17, 1947, 139 persons signed as charter members of a newly organized church called Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. The charter members were those courageous, far-sighted people from other congregations who realized the need for a church in the fast- growing subdivisions in the area. They held their first services in the old Broadmoor Theater on Youree Drive.

The church purchased 3¹⁄3 acres of land fronting Grover Place, between Russell and Stuart Streets. An Army chapel was purchased and moved to the site until a sanctuary could be built. In 1970, when the sanctuary was complete, the chapel served as a Fellowship Hall until 1979 when it was replaced with a newly constructed gymnasium complete with kitchen and new offices.

Music has always been an important part of Broadmoor. In 1980, the Session approved the purchase of a 28-rank pipe organ to be installed in the Sanctuary. The organ was first played at the Worship Service on Palm Sunday 1982. Since that time additional ranks have been added.

Broadmoor's Senior Pastors  have been: Leland McDuffie Kennedy, Jr. (1948–1952), Thomas Duncan (1953–60), Dan Frank Goodwin, Jr. (1961–73), David A. Laverty (1975–91), Norman Campbell (1992–95), Richard O. Knott (Interim 1995–97), and Steven W. Dyer (1997–2007).  The Reverend Dianne Brown has served as Pastor since October 2007.

The first 60 years have been filled with challenges and celebrations. As we begin our next 60-plus years, we look forward to discerning God’s call for our congregation and fulfilling that call.

A major renovation of our Children's Building was completed in 2009.
